Fairfax Gardens Resident Services
Resident Services Office: On the second floor of the Community Center is the office of the Taunton Housing Authority Resident Services Coordinator for Fairfax Gardens. Among the services provided by the Resident Services Coordinator are: help with job search, counseling for personal or family problems, organization of community-wide projects such as clean up days, holiday celebrations, Mommy and Me Group, Arts and Crafts, Family Fitness and Adult Exercise Group, a homework clinic, and acting as a liaison between the tenant and the THA or children and the school system. The Resident Services Coordinator’s hours are 9:30 am – 5:00 pm Monday - Friday.
YMCA: The YMCA runs an after school program and a summer program at the site for children 6-14. There is a homework clinic. There are also games provided and organized activities, including cooking and food preparation.
Taunton Boys and Girls Club: For children 6-16 there the Boys and Girls Club offers a FREE membership and transportation from the site at 3:30 and 4:30 every day and transportation home at 7:30. This program runs during the school year.
Taunton Public Schools: Provides tutoring to all students from Kindergarten through High School with homework help Monday – Thursday. They plan to hold a summer program with field trips being incentive to attend.
Associates for Human Services Parent/Child Home Program: This program provides toys and books for children under the age of four and works with parents to help prepare these young children for pre-school and kindergarten.
Community Police: There are two police officers assigned to Fairfax Gardens for two 40-hour shifts a week and a community police station on the site.
Dentist Program: Free dental care is provided in the Community Center for patients of all ages during the summer.
Taunton Pop Warner Football & Cheerleading: Taunton Pop Warner welcomes all boys and girls to participate in football and cheerleading. Any child is welcome regardless of financial situation. To signup call 508-828-9914.
Summer Basketball League: There is a summer basketball league at Fairfax Gardens with boys and girls teams, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Boys and Girl Scouts of America: The Boys and Girls Scouts are currently meeting with children from the development for the Boys and Girls Scouts. Meetings take place in the Community Center on Mondays (Girl Scouts) and Thursdays (Boy Scouts) for an hour and a half. Some field trips are included with these programs.
Community Care Services: Community Care Services provides funding to Girls, Inc. to run their summer programs. They also run a program called “Making Proud Choices” targeted at young teen girls to help prevent pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
Girls, Inc.: Girls, Inc. of Taunton has collaborated with Community Care Services to bring Friendly PEERsuasion to the girls of Fairfax Gardens. This group runs 15 weeks from May – August and teaches girls how to avoid peer pressure and anxiety that can lead to substance abuse. Girls, Inc. will also run a self-defense course this summer.
Field Trips: The YMCA and THA provide field trips for the children during the summer. Summer groups raise money by doing car washes and other fund raises to take trips during the year.
Taunton Cubs Football & Cheerleading: The Taunton Cubs welcomes all boys and girls to participate in football and cheerleading. Any child is welcome regardless of financial situation. Signup takes place in the spring.
